Glowlight Tetra Tank Mates
Glowlight tetras are among the easier tetras to place into an existing community, since they're neither fin-nippers themselves nor particularly demanding about water chemistry.
Generally Compatible
Neon and cardinal tetras share similar size, temperament, and general care needs, making a mixed tetra shoal a common and reliable combination. Corydoras catfish occupy a different tank level with no competitive overlap. Honey and dwarf gouramis are calm enough to coexist without issue in a reasonably sized tank. Cherry shrimp and similar dwarf invertebrates are neither threatened by nor a target for this peaceful species.
Proceed With Caution
Black skirt tetras and other known fin-nippers can single out a glowlight tetra's fins in an undersized nipper group, so this pairing works best only when the nippier species is kept in full shoal numbers and well fed. Larger, more boisterous barbs should be watched at introduction, since a glowlight tetra is unlikely to defend itself.
Generally Incompatible
Any confirmed aggressive fin-nipper kept in insufficient numbers poses a real risk to this defenseless species. Large or predatory fish view a glowlight tetra as easy prey given its small size and non-aggressive nature.
Compatibility Summary
Because glowlight tetras themselves present so little risk to tankmates, compatibility planning here is almost entirely about protecting the glowlights from more assertive species rather than managing anything the glowlights themselves might do.
